From Susan Kusel's Passover Guest. Passover is a Jewish spring-time holiday celebrating freedom. It retells the story of the Israelites' escape from slavery in Egypt and recounts several events from the Book of Exodus in the Torah. It is celebrated at home with a seder, a combination religious service and a festive meal.

This illustration captures the moment at the tail-end of the seder, when the guests have turned from eating and drinking to storytelling and singing. Many readers have told me they somehow recognize all the people in this illustration. It's one of my favorites from this book, mostly because it reminds me of my own family's gatherings.
