SEAN RUBIN was born in Brooklyn, New York. An only child, he entertained himself by collecting interesting things, learning about unusual subjects, and by drawing characters from books, especially Redwall and The Lord of the Rings.
According to his editor, Sean has two identities, the tea-drinker and the coffee-drinker. When he's drinking tea, Sean is an illustrator for the New York Times Best-selling Redwall Series; the upcoming Astronaut Who Painted The Moon, due from Scholastic in 2019; and Captial Magic, to be published by Neal Porter Books/Holiday House in 2020. He also contributed to the Eisner-winning Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard anthology.
When Sean is drinking coffee, he's Chief Creative Officer of the intrepid MNY Group, a company he co-founded in 2011. They make something awesome called Life Floor. As a sometime designer and art director, Sean has developed brands and created graphic identities for clients across a variety of industries.
When he's drinking both tea and coffee, it's probably because the Eisner/ELG/Ringo-nominated Bolivar, the first book Sean both wrote and illustrated, is being developed as a feature film. Sean was nominated for the 2018 Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer, a comics industry honor, for his work on Bolivar.
Sean studied art and archeology at Princeton University, where he met his wife, Lucy. They have two sons and currently live in Charleston, South Carolina, where they enjoy air conditioning and watching alligators from their living room window.
